Isle of Man based filmmakers Felipe Kowalczuk and Chris Gulland have been working on a full-length documentary project since 2019.
'Faster Than Life' is focused on bikers over 60 who still compete and risk their lives in races around the world, mainly in the world-famous Isle of Man TT Races, Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix.
After initial research and a few interviews, they met the mountain course legend Dave Madsen-Mygdal, the first rider to finish 100 races on the Isle of Man TT.
At 64 and a sparkle in his eyes, Dave was preparing for another season, demonstrating a true passion for road racing. He immediately became the main character in the documentary.
In early 2020, everything was set up to follow Dave on races over the UK and abroad, culminating in the Island of Man TT Races and Classic TT. They did extended interviews at Dave's home and workshop.
The documentary ‘Faster Than Life’ was already a reality when the COVID-19 pandemic took the world by storm. For the first time since the war, TT Races was cancelled.
Even shaken by the events, the producers/directors decided that the film could not stop but gain new layers.
The pandemic has become an unwanted character in the film, but that has brought yet another element for reflection.
Until then, the film spoke of passionate and fearless people who managed to be even faster than life; now, it also says about resilience and reconstruction.
Amazing stories about road racing, motorcycles, overcoming, passion, and unique ways of facing life will be showed, all this against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Isle of Man and the efforts made for all Manx people to overcome it.
Starting motorbike racing around the Isle of Man Mountain Course in 1981, Dave Madsen-Mygdal is the first rider to finish 100 Isle of Man TT races. Nearly turning 65, his plans on retirement are postponed in the face of the global pandemic.
Started in 2019, 'Faster Than Life' is a feature documentary to be launched in 2022 that talks about passion, motorbike racing, speed and life itself.
